Google office advantages

First, please refer to the article in this blog, Why there's blog name of "Google Office Comment" to see my definition of Google office. Now it's Google documents and spreadsheet+mail+calendar.

At the beginning , I love Google office out of enthusiasm. The fresh experience of getting the similar thing of Microsoft office on the web form is really a touch to me.

Nowadays I have used Google office for a time and I know I can not take it good without reasons. I have been well trained in the college classes and already knew that when you make a statement you need something to support it.

In general, Google office is not a functional copy of MS office. Much of its values lie in the difference between them. Next are the points I can think of:

1 Free to all
Until now, Google office is free to all the people in the world. The only necessary is to create a Google account and a web browser.

2 Enable boundariless teamwork
Collaboration is the powerful feature of Google office. With mail, calendar, document and spreadsheet, Google provides a good office solution.

Traditionally, to implement such office environment, you have to buy or rent IT infrastructures, to deploy many expensive software (as mail server), and to have a IT team to maintain the it's normal operation. At the same time, the dedicated office solution is only for internal use. You can not count on it to work closely with people outside your organization, say, your supplier, or an external expert.
Now, with Google office, all of these are not necessary. You can set up a very loosely-coupled team, and then easily get to effective work with Google office.

3 Global office sites
Google office is web based tool. You can resume your work at anywhere if there's a web browser. It will not be a must for you to take your laptop computer in the travel; and you don't need to worry that your new team in London has to wait because new office is not ready.

4 Security obtained from Google technology
Google technology can be trusted. So you don't have to worry that you data will be lost one day.

In addition, Google office have a good method in the access control. With it you can easily control who can view, and who can edit your data. This is another aspect of security.

Difficult to keep paragrph formatting in Google document

I love Google document; at the same time, I also realize how great Microsoft is in their office products.

One thing is to keep the formatting of paragraph. In Google document, I never know what spaces between paragraphs will be. It may changes wide in my blog, or changes shorter when exported to MS word file.

It seems that there's no way to adjust the paragraph spacing in Google document; either, there's no way to control the indent of the paragraph; All of these are bad, I don't what to ask too many, but without these features I can not take it as true word processing tool.

Why there's blog name of "Google Office Comment"

Now I have to tell why I give this blog a name of "Google Office Comment".

I have written a lot of words in my another blog, http://doctemplate.blogspot.com, to share my experience and templates developed on Google Documents and Spreadsheet. There are so many times I have to use the phrase "Google Documents and Spreadsheet" in blog, so I want to use a shorter one. However, I don't like the one - Google D&S. I thought for some time and finally decided that Google office will be a best one to describe the current Google document and Spreadsheet.

In my mind, the 4 elements of office suit are: mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation; With Gmail, Google calendar, Google Documents and Spreadsheet, there's only one step to Google office: presentation. Though a little earlier, I think we can use "Google office" now.

The Beginning of this blog

I already have a blog, http://doctemplate.blotspot.com, for Google documents and spreadsheet; Because the goal of the "doctemplate" is to promote the use of the Google docucments and Spreadsheet, I don't want to say something bad there;

As as result, I created this blog, to write something on the limitation of Google document and spreasheet; Also, I want to give more proposals on the improvement in this blog;

I tried to use the URL of http://googleoffice.blogspot.com in the creation of this blog, and it seems that this URL has been reserved; but this one, http://googlecomment.blotspot.com, is still available. For me it is not so bad;

At last of this article, I have to say some words that are related to the goal; Today, I attended a Survey of Google documents and Spreasheet, and gave a proposal in the survey to add the feature of presentation slides in the google product.

I absolutly belive that this feature is useful. Now I have some ideas on this in my mind, but I am too busy these days to have a time summarizing the ideas. This will be done later.
